In The Force of Wind by Elizabeth Hunter, we return to the lives and love of Giovanni Vecchio and Beatrice De Novo. This is the third book in the four-part Elemental Mysteries series in the paranormal mystery/romance genre.
This is a grittier story than the first two books. Beatrice continues her martial arts training as she works on improving her strength, agility and reflexes. She and Gio travel to a remote island, home to the council of the Eight Immortals. Her Father has taken refuge on the island, and she is reunited at last with her Dad.
Here Beatrice and Giovanni along with their allies will face an evil enemy who comes to reclaim a piece of stolen property. Beatrice must decide what sacrifices she is willing to make to survive the coming conflict.
I enjoyed the pace and tension in this story. Beatrice makes a major decision that Giovanni does not agree with, and there is a fallout of sorts between them. Their love for each other is one of my favorite parts of the story. There are some unexpected twists to the story, and there is a resolution of some points by the story’s end. Other key issues remain unresolved and will be wrapped up in book four – A Fall of Water.
