In the Sea Glass Sisters by Lisa Wingate, Elizabeth Gallagher works a 911 call center job in Michigan. She’s married with two children and is close to her family. One night a call to 911 goes horribly wrong and Elizabeth blames herself for what happened.
Elizabeth’s Aunt Sandy lives on Hatteras Island where a hurricane is approaching. Aunt Sandy works with sea glass and makes ornaments, sun-catchers and jewelry. The picturesque charm of her shop and the seaside community came alive for me in this novella.
When the hurricane hits, Elizabeth, her Mother and her Aunt ride out the storm together. This is primarily a story about family. I loved the setting of the story and the interplay between the characters. Family ties are strong, and sometimes we need family around us to help us get through.
This novella is a prelude to the Prayer Box which is due out in the fall of 2013. I can’t wait to read more of the story.
