“A food truck, mobile kitchen, mobile canteen, roach coach, or catering truck is a mobile venue that transports and sells food” (wikipedia.org). Food trucks are descended from the original chuckwagon used by cattlemen. They also were popular as mobile canteens in the 1950’s for the U.S. Army. There are quite a few food trucks around Rochester. I have yet to sample the cuisine, but I have been photographing them on my daily walks. I’m not sure why, but I think they are neat!
In addition to showing up daily downtown, they also have major gatherings once a month. “Food Truck Rodeo brings our community’s eclectic array of mobile food stands together at the Rochester Public Market. The 2013 rodeo will run on the final Wednesday of each month: May 29, June 26, July 31, Aug. 28 and Sept. 25. It’s fun on four wheels with over 23 vendors serving up their unique cuisine on paper plate” (cityofrochester.gov). I will be attending the 2013 Food Truck Rodeo at the end of this month. I can’t wait to try the food and take some more pictures.
Here are some photos I’ve taken:
