When I left for work on Friday morning, I opened the door to find a squirrel outside on the lawn. When I came out, she scrambled up a tree branch for a closer look at me. She peered at me so intently (the way Sera does). Sandy tends to hide behind branches and peek at me, hoping I can’t see her. I went back inside for a handful of peanuts. When I came back out, the squirrel got down onto the grass while I stood right there on the step (much like Sera does). Sandy usually waits until I am back inside or I have walked away before she will pick up the food. The only difference was the tail – this squirrel’s tail was a raggedy-looking stripey-gray (sorry – I was too excited, hoping it was her – I didn’t get my camera out). Last time I saw Sera her tail was a reddish color. I looked back through photos from my old phone – Sera’s tail used to be gray. Do squirrel’s coats shed and grow in in different colors? I think they do because at one point Sera was mostly red, and then the fur seemed to be falling out. At one time she had gray shoulders and reddish hips. I will choose to believe that my friend is still around. Perhaps she’s been hiding from me the past few weeks because she was having a bad hair (tail) day?
