According to, Skaneateles (skinny atlas), is an Iroquois Indian word for “long lake”. The town of Skaneateles is where Hubby and I are going tonight for a quick weekend getaway in celebration of our 24th wedding anniversary (which falls on Monday, November 11th).  We both have to work Monday so we thought we’d celebrate a little early.

Skaneateles is a picturesque small town in Onondaga County, New York.  Frommer’s calls it “a graceful collection of 19th-century Greek Revival and Victorian homes and charming independent shops.  It looks and feels more like a classic New England village than one in upstate New York.”

I am looking forward to our trip and wish it was for more than one night.  There is no traditional gift for a 24th wedding anniversary so our gift to each other will be this night away. I so seldom get to enjoy his company for a long weekend so I have already been given a great gift.
