This is the travel case that Hubby used as a shower kit. Note the melted comb stuck to the top. The top used to have a great lid with a mirror inside and a carrying handle.

I know they are only things

It still hurts to see them burnt

Hubby mourns the truck itself

But that will return one day

I mourn the littlest things

The things that died in the fire

The comforter that was ours

It covered our bed for years

The case for shower supplies

It went on trips with us both

The pillows that graced our bed

It hurt to see them roadside

The quilted flannel jacket

That was new this past Christmas

The steady and true laptop

That toughie came from eBay

Snoopy, new this Valentine’s

He hung from the truck’s mirror

The Kindle that was once mine

That had a lighted case, too

I’m sure we will find more lost

We get attached too quickly

We have never had a lot

So we treasure what we get

Hubby is most important

But I still mourn faithful things

And shed a tear that they burned

Faithful things, farewell and thanks

smoky Snoopy before

smoky Snoopy before

But wait, there is a smile here

After TLC – Snoopy!

Snoopy with some TLC

Snoopy with some TLC

  1. You saved Snoopy! Thanks for sharing this…I recently posted a question on Facebook about what one thing you’d save (minus people/pets) if your house was on fire and you could safely only grab one thing. The answers were very interesting.

That’s a tough one. For me it would probably be my iPhone. I do so much on the phone (I actually use the phone part the least!).

You’re right, they are just “things,” and it is a relief that nobody was physically hurt. Having experienced my own losses from a fire in my first apartment, I ache for you and your husband at reading this poignant post. What memories it evokes. Be gentle to yourselves as you process this, and rock on Snoopy!!
