Donna Reads: Lingus by Mariana Zapata

The Blurb: Most people would describe Katherine Berger as a responsible girl with a big heart, a loyal friend who takes care of those close to her, and the possessor of a wicked sense of humor. There was something about her that most people didn’t know. “My name is Kat Berger, and I love porn.” When twenty-five-year-old Kat is dragged to a porn convention by her best friend, she’s both embarrassed and nervous. The last thing she ever expected was to meet someone who makes her laugh like no other. This is a story about acceptance and friendship, and a love born out of the most unexpected of places.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this one since the hero in the story works in adult films. I should’ve known better with a Mariana Zapata book. I love everything she writes. The hero is not presented as a porn star; he’s presented as Tristan King, a handsome, slightly goofy, lonely man. He’s a law student, working as a law intern, and his work in the adult film industry precludes his having a romantic relationship as a girlfriend would not understand his second job. His family doesn’t even know.

Katherine (Kat) Berger, a fourth grade school teacher, is at a porn convention with her two best friends. One of them (Zoe) just happens to work in porn herself. Kat is embarrassed and nervous to be there. While at the convention, Kat is waiting while her other friend Nicole gets an autograph. Kat strikes up a conversation with a handsome guy standing nearby. He introduces himself as Tristan. They like each other, and they end up hanging out together and sharing lunch. She has no idea he is also an adult film star, known as Robby Lingus.

Kat and Tristan become friends, and this really was a very sweet story about how acceptance and trust can lead to love. I really liked this book.

Even more awesome are the Extras on Mariana Zapata’s website. There are several chapters or outtakes told from Tristan’s point of view. I loved those.
