Dress designer Kimber DeSanto has been left at the altar and very publicly humiliated by her ex, a famous politician’s son. When she receives word that her father is dying in Italy, she buys a ticket to go to her father who she hasn’t seen in five years. When she discovers she’s been bumped from her flight, she loses her temper. She’s rescued by the handsome stranger she bumped into at the airport bar. He trades her his first class ticket for her sketch pad full of dress designs. She has no idea that he’s famous Italian designer Matteo Moretti. She gets to Italy in time to be there when her father dies. She then has a series of shocks one right after the other. She learns her father had remarried and never told her, she dislikes her stepmother on sight, Matteo is her stepbrother (ex stepbrother), and her dress shop in the US burns to the ground.

Wow, there was a lot going on in poor Kimber’s life. The best thing that happens to her is meeting Matteo. I wasn’t sure about his smarmy charm at first glance, and I thought briefly that he was a jerk like Kimber first thought, but he turned into a sympathetic, real hero. He’d had setbacks and hardships, too. I loved that he always seemed to know what Kimber was thinking or feeling. He understood her like no one else. I hated that she had been hurt by Brad, her ex, and she was hesitant to try again so quickly with someone else. She hurts the hero without realizing it.

There was a goofy cast of side characters, mostly Kimber’s friends. Her ex also pops up, and he wants her back. He was annoying until the real reason why he couldn’t marry her is explained.

I was given an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I love this series of books loosely based on fairy tales. Each book is a well-written stand-alone. I enjoyed this one a lot and stayed up late on a week night to finish it. It was well worth it.
