Adventures in Blogging

Apologies if my website and blogging have seemed a little haphazard lately. I walked away from blogging earlier in the year. Chase, our diabetic kitty got sick.

I don’t regret working from home during the covid panic because I got to spend his last few months here with him. If I had been at work, I wouldn’t have had that time with him. We had a really big scare with him where his blood sugar was down to 38. I had to rush him to the emergency vet. The next week we’d go to our regular vet and hear the awful words “there’s a mass”. We heard that just over a year ago with Ginger, then this year it happened with Chase.

I was so distraught after we said goodbye to him that I had no desire to write or post. I was deeply saddened to see that fellow bloggers had also lost pets while I was away. I have to give you all kudos. I don’t know how you kept positing. I just couldn’t do it.

Four months passed, and when I finally felt like I could post something again, it was to discover that everything was now under the dreaded block editor. My first post was a disaster. I worked hard on it, and I thought I had selected classic editor only to find that my post was an empty one. NO text anywhere to be seen. I think I re-did that post two or three times.

Then I decided I wanted a fresh start. I cleaned up my header and decided to go with a new theme and a logo only. Several posts in, I found out the (useless) theme I had chosen had no option for reader’s comments.

Another re-think and re-design this morning, and I now think I’m where I want to be. I edited my header to use an actual image of my husband’s truck. I also wanted to add my bass guitar since that is also a big part of who I am now.

This post is primarily a test post. I’m hoping it doesn’t come out blank, and I’m hoping this new theme includes a comments button. Please? (fingers crossed).

It’s good to be back.

Tenacious Tuesday #1

For my first post on a Tuesday in 2018, I’m introducing Tenacious Tuesday. Tenacious Tuesday is all about hanging tough and keeping going. When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

I’d like to think that is what I do on a daily basis. I keep going. 2018 is about keeping going for me. I will persevere and rise above.

I’m going to try something a little bit different this year on Heron, There & Everywhere. I’d like to attempt to follow a themed approach. Each day will have its own theme. I’ve tried to stick with what I know and what I like.

Mondays will be Musical Monday. I will write about anything music-related from my favorite bands, songs or concerts. Music is a huge part of my daily life.

Tuesdays will be Tenacious Tuesday. Tenacious Tuesday will be about challenges and hanging in there when life knocks me down. As a trucker’s wife, every day is a challenge.

Wednesdays will be Wellness Wednesday, and I’ll write about anything health-related that my family deals with – autism, ADHD, diabetes, celiac disease, diverticulitis, etc.

Thursdays will be Thoughtful Thursday. Those posts will be more random in nature from poetry to creative writing to random musings.

Fridays will be Fictional Friday, and that will be the day I post book reviews and anything book-related.

Saturdays will be Sentimental Saturday. I will write about my favorite things. My beloved squirrels will probably show up here.

Sundays will be Silent Sunday. This day will be photos only, no words. I love photography and have thousands of photos.

It is my hope that following a more organized approach will keep me writing more consistently in 2018. Please let me know what you think.

I Got Nothing

Uh-oh, the dreaded blank screen. What to write, what to write. I’ve been doing great at preparing posts the day before and having them lined up to post overnight. Except for Friday. Maybe it’s because it’s been too long of a long week. I have nothing. My mind’s a blank.

doubtI looked to Pinterest for some inspiration. I found some writing prompts, but I’m too tired to do anything right now other than share them.

notwritingThis one is nice.

droveI like to think that this is what my hubby does when he’s coming home to me. He’s often awake and driving at night when I’m sleeping. We sometimes are on opposite ends of the clock, and that’s hard. I like it when I know he’s coming home to me.

This one is just silly.

soundI know I’ve lived with boys (and boy humor) for far too long. All I could think of when I read that was, ‘did someone pass wind?’ Then I got a case of the giggles and couldn’t stop laughing.

This one is a little creepy.

heartbeatIt would make a good Halloween type of story, though. Is his heart beating again because he was buried alive? Has he come back to life? Was he reincarnated? It kind-of gave me the shivers.

improvewritingI write all the time outside of blogging (mostly for my own amusement). I’m not brave enough yet to revise and ready them for anything beyond the rough draft stage. It is true, though, with the more books I read the more certain I am I could do just as well (if not better) than some of the authors I’ve read. I think the day is coming soon when i will reach that point and I’ll be brave enough to take the next step.

writersblockOkay, cat, I get it. Hang it up for the night. Tomorrow will be a more productive day.
