** I received an advanced reading copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.**

Cooper Nelson is a retired SEAL, who was forced to walk away from his career when an explosion left him deaf in his right ear and with only 30% hearing in his left ear. When he is asked to volunteer at a school for deaf children, he meets teacher, Kiera Hamilton. Kiera is ten years older than Coop, and although she is attracted to him, she can’t understand why he would be interested in anything long-term with her. Watching Coop work with the young students in her class, Kiera begins to fall for him. When an attempted abduction at the school threatens to take away everything that matters to Coop, he must act quickly.

This was my first read by Susan Stoker, and I didn’t realize this book was part of a series. I was attracted to the story of a deaf former-SEAL who works to reach a troubled, young deaf boy as he learns how to live with his own disability. As I got into the story, not having read any of the other books in the series wasn’t a problem at all. I was able to connect with the story and the characters. I really liked Kiera and the fact that she was older (37). She knew what she wanted and was able to speak her mind and be upfront about what she was feeling. I also liked Coop a lot. He was sweet and great with the children. Once he realized Kiera liked him, too, he took charge of their relationship. He was definitely a bit of an alpha male.

This book was very enjoyable, and I read it in one day. I will definitely read the rest of this series.

New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author, Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Texas where she lives, but this all-American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, and Indiana. She’s married to a retired Army man who now gets to follow her around the country.

She debuted her first series in 2014 and quickly followed that up with the SEAL of Protection Series, which solidified her love of writing and creating stories readers can get lost in.
